Bactrim

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is intended for the treatment of urinary tract infections, ear infections, and bronchitis. Other conditions it can be used for include traveler's diarrhea and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. The following conditions can prevent you from safely taking this drug: being allergic to sulfamethoxazole or trimethoprim, pregnancy, breastfeeding or being diagnosed with anemia. Try to reduce the time that you spend exposed to direct sunlight as your skin can become more sensitive when taking this medicine. This drug is not to be used for children younger than 2 months old.

Although you are likely to feel better after just a few doses of the medicine your condition may not be treated completely. To prevent a relapse of infection make sure you take the entire amount prescribed. Do not stop the treatment until you have used all the medicine recommended by your health care provider. Improved symptoms can be experienced even if your condition has not been completely treated. Do not start taking any medications to treat diarrhea as this side effect may be caused by Bactrim. Your health care provider will give recommendations on what you are supposed to do in this case.
